diptychs:two becoming one

Ideally, I thought of a lot of good ideas for this diptych project....but i got busy and I felt I procrastinated and got lazy. I do admit though I like this shot and I like the idea of two photographs being put together for something greater. I learned procrastination is bad and I learned that I need to work on my night time skills. Daytime, good....nighttime needs improvement.

Black & White Portraits

Someone I don't know:

Someone I know:

I really love portraits. I like talking to people while taking their picture and I like watching their facial expression as they described themselves. To me, the expression of a person is essential to the story that is given through the picture. The natural beauty of a person is usually seen through body language (especially the eyes and the smile). The only regret I have for this assignment is not taking more pictures.

Color Portraits

Someone I know:
This is my roommate Michelle. She is not known for her smiling picture but her funny pictures. Out of all the pictures I took of her I loved her "Asian" picture. She loves being asian, flaunting it and having fun with it.

Someone I don't know:

This is my stranger and new friend, Maya. I actually know her roommate from last year. After talking to her for more than ten minutes I found out that she is from Mexico and she wants to become an international counselor for BYU! Her family lives in New Zealand but she is pure Mexican. I'm glad I got a new friend.

Me but NOT me:
After looking at the portraits from last semester I found out I really liked the idea of the long exposure and being a ghost. So, I tried it. This picture is not me because I am not transparent like a ghost and I don't allow anyone to affect me personally. I know who I am and my personality makes me human and not a ghost.

I really enjoyed this lesson. I love portraits and the process is quite creative but fun. It taught me how to step out of my comfort zone and find a stranger. Definitely something I am NOT used to but I'm glad I did it.

Color Theory

I love color but I had a hard time finding solid colors around my apartment. Luckily a few bottles, oranges, a scarf and some light solved that problem. I felt like while the colors of the object are important, light ws again my biggest friend/foe. It either made the picture look awesome or extremely yucky. Oh and I didn't notice till now how much I love the color red.

High Key/Low Key

My view:

Experimentation and Patience is super important. I also learned the value of light. Durin this assignment I had to keep moving my objects around the light as well as myself in order to get the "perfect" light hitting my object. Also, trusting your gut is essential in choosing the picture to tell the story.
The Camera's "correct view:

As much as the camera is smart at taking pictures, I can do better. :)
